Staying at Pagosa Springs as we had in January adds about 40 minutes each way to the drive. This trip we stayed in South Fork, instead of Pagosa Springs (these are the only choices if you’re skiing WC), since as we discovered on our January trip South Fork is a closer drive from Denver and the Summit area. We flew in a day too late to really get the full benefit, but we figured the surface should still be skiing pretty well for at least a couple of days. This time our decision was due to the fact that the Summit/ Eagle resorts got 1- 5 inches from the latest storm (mainly Sunday and Monday) – which seemed just enough to put some dust on the crust - whereas WC got 17 inches, sufficient for a good re-surfacing. Wolf Creek is east of the city of Durango and the Durango Mountain Ski Resort, meaning its possible to stop at multiple resorts on a Colorado ski vacation.Once again, as in early January, my wife and I were planning a week trip to the Summit/ Eagle County area of Colorado, but decided at the last minute to go to Wolf Creek for part of the week. As for the larger log home, it can sleep up to twelve and backs up to a national forest. The cabins feature multiple bedrooms, kitchens, separate living rooms, and fireplaces. You can also rent a cabin or a larger log home if you prefer. There are eight motel rooms to choose from at the Wolf Creek Ranch Ski Lodge, and each offers a kitchenette and satellite TV. No other lodging establishment is closer to the resort in the long run. Other perks that help to make it one of the top Wolf Creek Ski Area lodging picks is its indoor pool, its guest hot tub, its fitness center, and its complimentary Wi-Fi.Īnother Wolf Creek Ski Area lodging that is worth considering if you want to stay especially close to the slopes is the Wolf Creek Ranch Ski Lodge. This affordable South Fork hotel is closer to the Wolf Creek Ski Area than any other area hotel and includes a deluxe continental breakfast in its rates. Should you want to stay as close to the slopes as possible, then the Allington Inn and Suites is a Wolf Creek Ski Area lodging that is not to be overlooked. Due to the high altitude, drinking plenty of water is recommended on your visit so that you don't get dehydrated. The base elevation of this resort in the San Juan Mountains is 10,300 feet, while the summit elevation is 11,900 feet. When it comes to Wolf Creek Ski Area stats, other things that might be of interest include the resort's elevation and its vertical drop. The 1,600 total skiable acres feature groomed trails, tree runs, and glades, and no fewer than seven lifts are in place to get you where you want to go. While the Wolf Creek Ski Area especially caters to intermediate skiers, its terrain offers up plenty of runs for all levels. Many of the visitors who aren't from the immediate area are tempted by the prospect of powdery conditions, not to mention the varied terrain. Visitors from other area states, such as New Mexico, are also known to drop by with regularity, as are a good number of European visitors. The Wolf Creek Ski Resort is one of the oldest ski resorts in Colorado and mostly serves the needs of locals.
